about

These two tracks originally appeared at the end of a couple of long drone pieces on my 2018 album Ghost Self. At the time they felt a bit too ‘straight folk,’ to be songs of their own. I still like them at the end of the longer pieces, like a wake up chime after a long dream, but I also now feel that they deserve a place in their own right. Conversely, I liked that long form drone album and am also pondering a Ghost Self II..

Where Were You in ‘72? features a rare appearance from myself on drum kit. Drums were actually my first instrument back when I was a teenager, though my Mum wasn’t very happy with this choice, making practicing rather tricky. There were vocals at one point but they got ushered out by the rest of the instruments and are now lost to time… I like it this way anyway.

The Laziest Of Rivers definitely deserves a nod to Nick Drake’s at At The Chime Of A City Clock…but I like the guitar sound on this one. I’ve tamed the low end a little for these versions but not too much as I like the boom…

I think these would make a nice double A side 7”… but you’ll have to use your imagination for that one.. all music is just someone’s imaginings anyway. 😊
